Good questions for couples do more than fill a silence. They give you a reason to talk about the things you rarely think to ask, even after years together.
Below are 100 questions for couples to ask each other, in seven groups: fun and light, everyday life, memories, closeness and feelings, the future and date night, plus ten for the heavier days. Pick one group, take a few at a time, and give the answers the time they deserve.
How to use these questions without it feeling like an interview
A good question can fall completely flat if it is asked like a job interview. Five habits make the difference:
- Both of you answer. Take one question at a time and let both of you answer it, not just the person who was asked.
- Follow up before moving on. “Why?” and “tell me more” often beat the next question on the list.
- Skipping is allowed. A question that does not fit tonight might fit another time.
- There are no right answers. Only honest ones. Do not turn the questions into a test of how well you know each other.
- Match the mood. The light ones work in the car or on a walk. Save the deep ones for when you have time, and the hard ones for when you can listen to the end.

- Have you ever felt alone, even when we were together?
- What is a dream you rarely talk about?

Date night questions
A little flirting, a little nostalgia, and a few questions that suit a table with candles, or a takeaway on the living-room floor.
- What is the best date we have had, and what made it so good?
- If you planned tonight, what would we be doing?

Harder questions, for when things have been heavy
Ten questions for the days when nothing is easy. Take one at a time, and do not try to solve everything in one conversation.
- How are you really doing, beyond “fine”?
- Is there something you have been carrying alone that you would like to share?
- What do you need more of from me right now?
- What do you need less of?
- Is there something I said or did that hurt you and that we never talked about?
- What helps you when you feel overwhelmed?
- How can we make it easier to talk about difficult things?
- What have we got through together before that gives you hope now?
- How would you like us to take a break if a conversation gets too heated?
- What would you like me to say on the days you doubt us?
Question cards in the Partner Room
Would you rather have the questions where you already talk? Ameo has the Partner Room: a room of your own for the two of you, with its own chat, question cards and games.
You draw one card with one question, from Us, Memories, Future or Date talk, or let the app surprise you. When you want to do something other than talk, you can play Liar’s Dice or chess in the same conversation, or plan a date night together: agree on what, when and where. With “Remember this” you can keep memories from the room whenever you choose to. See what you can do together.
One of you invites the other with a link, a code or a QR code. Neither of you needs a dating profile, and couples never appear in Dating. Download Ameo to take the questions with you.
In short
The most important thing is not which question you start with, but that you actually listen to the answer. Take a few at a time, both of you answer, and come back to the list when you need a new way into the conversation. If you are still at the very beginning, our guide to a better first conversation uses the same idea: ask questions whose answers cannot be prepared in advance.
